Show when a user saw but didn't engage with a particular tour step (Guide Step Seen)
This recipe uses the Guide Step Seen and Guide State Changed events to help you create a funnel to identify users who viewed a specific guide step but failed to engage with it further, allowing you to find areas for optimization.
Note: Custom events that begin with Guide... correspond to Guides and Surveys tours.
Ingredients
- Content: Tour
- Event: Guide Step Seen
- Event: Guide State Changed
- Optional Properties: guideName, guideId, stepName, stepType, stepId, stepIndex
Instructions
- Find the tour you want to analyze in Fullstory.
- In Fullstory, create a new funnel set to count Unique users.
- Change the first funnel event to a Custom Event set to Guide Step Seen.
-
Click the Refine event by… icon to the right of the event and configure:
- guideName or guideId: Set to match the tour you intend to analyze.
- stepName, stepId, or stepIndex: Set to match a specific step.
-
Change the second funnel event to a Custom Event set to Guide State Changed.
Note: The Guide State Changed event only fires when the state is "started", "completed", or "closed". By adding it to the end of the funnel, you can identify users who saw the step but didn't reach a "completed" or "closed" state.
-
Click the Refine event by… icon to the right of the event and configure:
- guideName or guideId: Set to match the same tour as above.
- stepName, stepId, or stepIndex: Set to match the same step as above.
- Click Apply Filters to generate the funnel.
-
To identify users who did not engage, look for sessions where the Guide Step Seen event occurs without a subsequent Guide State Changed event.
- Save your search or funnel to track drop-off rates on that specific guide step over time.
