Difference between New Tab and Navigate events?

When watching a session, you can filter by events “New Tab” and “Navigate”. In my application, it looks like some of the “Navigate” events are instances of the user navigating to new tab.

 

What is the difference?

 

And would some new tabs instances be considered a “Navigate” event?

    You are correct, new tab events and navigate events can be one in the same but this isn’t always the case.

    • When a user navigates to a new page on your site within the same tab, you’ll see a navigate event but won’t see a new tab event.
    • Or, if a user opens a new tab on your site without opening that tab (for example, right clicking and choosing “Open in new tab”), you’d see a new tab event but not a navigate event.
