Interpreting First Contentful Paint (FCP) time

I have been tracking sessions with an unreasonably high FCP time (20+ seconds). I was expecting for the delay in page load to be noticeably bad. 20+ seconds of FCP is horrible!
Yet, when I saw the sessions with the high FCP times, I couldn’t see any delay the user faced. I really don’t understand this.
Am I interpreting FCP time incorrectly? Or is the delay for some reason not visible in my sessions?

The First Contentful Paint (FCP) event relates to the moment when the first element from the DOM appears in the users' browser. Since the sessions aren’t reflecting any delays, there may be something creating this perceived time which would require further investigation from our Support team.
