Can users be segmented by hourly traffic?

New

Is there a way to segment users hourly? I want to focus our sessions on those within peak hours of usage within a day.

Or even highlighting that time period in a chart Metric?

  • Hey @InMoMatt! Thanks so much for reaching out! 😊

Filtering for a specific time range, for example, 8:00am-5:00pm over the past 30 days isn't possible in FullStory, but you can apply a specific time range to a metric! You would need to do this for each individual day you are interested in gathering data from, however. Here’s a screenshot of what that could look like:

I think this would be a great option for FullStory users, so I am going to submit a feature request on your behalf.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

  • This did help and I was able to focus the metric onto some specific hour time ranges.  However finding the time selection and interacting with it was a bit troublesome.  I’m sure you could see from the fullstory :)

  • In a follow-up to this, I’m looking to find what our peak concurrent session usage is...preferably by hour...but hour selections are limited to a specific day.  I don’t know which day to look at to find the peak, or peak on average over the last year.  Any thoughts?

  • Hey @InMoMatt! Thank you so much for the follow-up, and apologies for the late reply with the long weekend!

We don't currently offer a way to get an overarching view of which hours per-day are the busiest. A workaround for this would be to first create a metric for unique users performing any activity:

Then, filter by hourly time range and compare to the past day:

This won’t give you an overview over an extended period of time but it could be helpful to analyze peak hours for particular days.

Another option to get more insight is to create a unique metric for each business day and compare those on a single dashboard to see which hours on which days are the busiest on your site.

I would love to learn a bit more about your use case and what you may be trying to solve by finding peak active times. Perhaps there is another way we can achieve this goal!

Please feel free to share, and don’t hesitate to reply with any additional questions. 😊

  • I would love to see a way to track this as well. We're trying to figure out our lowest usage time to know when to do maintenance.
