Backgrounded State

New

What does it mean when a full story recording goes into a background state on the timeline?  Seem likes my video is not captured in full and goes into that state.

  • Hey @peter.phu 👋 Backgrounding is the act of a user leaving that browser (but not closing it) so the user is inactive on your site but may return shortly.

In the example you shared the user was active but then minimized the tab likely and returned to their session, but remained inactive as noted by the yellow line that follows that backgrounded time.

Note that If a user goes inactive (i.e. backgrounds) a session for 30 minutes or longer, the session will end.

Here’s an article from FullStory with more information on backgrounding:

    Hope this helps!

  • When a user go into the background and opens a second tab that has a fully story on it, does the original tab ends and the new tabs gets recorded?

  • Hey @peter.phu! Great question!

If a user opens a second tab and keeps the original tab open, FullStory will continue to capture data on both pages. If a user closes the original tab, FullStory will no longer capture data on that page.

This question brings up an exciting new feature called Tabbed Browsing that is coming your way very soon! Tabbed Browsing allows you to understand how users open, close and navigate between browser tabs and visualize actual session behaviour across multiple tabs!

If you’re interested in this, I can have our team enable this feature on your account now. Please let me know if you’d like that enabled or if you have any other questions. 😄
