Exclude certain clicks from Rage Clicks

New

Hi Folks,

On our platform, we have a number of calendar pickers, where users can choose dates, navigate between months etc. The issue we have is that, if a user navigates to say, June of next year from today, that can mean multiple repeated clicks. Fullstory sometimes interprets these as rage clicks though they’re actually not, they’re legitimate clicks.

Wondering if there’s any way to exclude these from being counted as rage clicks?

  • Hey @PaulieOLithic great question - so I have a two part answer:

Yes, you can ignore frustration signals. First, you’ll find a session with the element present then when the UI component is in view toggle to Page Insights and then Inspect Mode. Second, select the item, scroll down on your list of tools in inspect mode, and click “Create Element”. Once that modal is produced you’ll have the option to ignore Rage Clicks or Dead Clicks (image below is end state example). Here’s a help article from FullStory on preventing frustration signals from being classified as such.

However, question if you really should ignore the signal. This “false positive” rage click may not be an indicator for frustration, but it may be highlighting excess interaction cost within your UX. At CXperts, we typically say never ignore frustration signals.

For the example you provided, it sounds like users are having to toggle over many many months, which is throwing a rage click and maybe a barrier to their goal. Recommendations: 1) consider adding a date entry field so users don’t have to toggle. 2) consider adding a “over 6 months” or “over 12 months” so users can reduce the number of clicks required.

    Hope that helps!

  • BAM! There is it, thank you. I was reckoning there was a way to do this, thanks for pointing it out and including the link to the article as well @stevenshyne

Yes, agree with you on the not ignoring the frustration signals. TBH our date picker needs work, there is a way to do it month to month and jump ahead, but it’s completely not intuitive, so it’s kind’ve on my hotlist to get redone. It hurts my big user empathy heart watching some of the sessions back 😢

Thanks again for your response, chat soon!

  • BAM! That’s what I like to hear and glad I could help! 🤝 And fwiw cringing while watching a session back – although uncomfortable, as you said – is critical in building empathy. ❤️ Users are people too! haha Best of luck 🕺
