🥳 New Advanced Fullstory GTM Template (Unofficial)

New

If you've implemented Fullstory using Google Tag Manager (GTM), you've likely used either the native Fullstory tag template or a custom HTML tag.

However, I've developed a more advanced Fullstory GTM custom template that goes beyond basic implementation. While this template does not install the Fullstory tracking script, it offers the following enhanced capabilities:

  • Event Tracking – Track custom events in Fullstory with additional properties.
  • User Identification – Identify users and associate metadata with their sessions.
  • Set Page Properties – Assign custom page properties for more detailed tracking.
  • Set User Properties – Define and store custom user attributes within FullStory.

The Advanced Fullstory GTM tag template is now live and available for download in the GitHub repository:

It's particularly valuable for those who want to leverage Fullstory's full measurement capabilities without writing code or dealing with the limitations of the current Fullstory GTM template.

Give it a try, and let me know your thoughts!

In addition, I also developed a GTM variable template that enables Fullstory users to retrieve a user's session recording playback URL and send it to any destination of their choice.

Here is the GitHub template link:

The variable template works with whatever version of Fullstory SDK you installed on your website.

Thanks for sharing this with the Fullstory Community, Jude Onyejekwe ! We love to see it.

Just a note for customers who are interested in implementing Jude's solution. It utilizes v2 of our APIs so you'll need to be sure to use an updated version of the Fullstory script for this to work properly.

There are instructions here which walk you through how to determine if you're using the latest version of the Fullstory script (v2). And you can read more about the differences between the v1 and v2 APIs here.
