The Guides and Surveys Chrome extension lets you preview your product tours, smart tips, checklists, banners, and surveys on any website without modifying your site's code. You can also initiate previews directly from the Guides and Surveys editor.
Note: The preview feature supports Product Tours , Smart Tips , Checklists , Banners , and Surveys , including both draft and published content.

Installation & Setup
To install the Guides and Surveys Chrome extension:
- Go to the Guides and Surveys by Fullstory page in the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome to install the extension.
- When the installation completes, the Guides and Surveys icon appears in your browser toolbar.
Note: The extension also works with Microsoft Edge. See How do I install the extension on Microsoft Edge? for instructions.
Signing in
The extension automatically syncs with your Fullstory account. If you are signed in to Fullstory in your browser, click the Guides and Surveys icon in your browser toolbar and the extension will connect to your account.
Preview content from the extension
Once the extension is connected to your Fullstory account, you can preview your Guides and Surveys content on any page:
- Navigate to the page where you want to preview your content.
- Click the Guides and Surveys icon
in your browser toolbar and click Open Panel .
- The Preview bar appears at the bottom of the page.
- Select the content you want to preview from the list.
- Click Start preview to begin previewing.
The preview panel shows whether the selected content is available on the current page based on its page targeting rules.
Note: During preview, conditions such as tags and user segments are not applied. Only page targeting rules determine whether content appears.
If the content is not available on the current page, you will see a message indicating this. You can still preview the content by clicking Start preview anyway , or you can update the page targeting settings in the content editor.
Preview controls
While previewing content, the extension panel provides controls to manage the preview:
- Stop - End the current preview.
- Restart - Start the preview from the beginning.
- Step list - For product tours, click any step to jump directly to it.
When you update content in Guides and Surveys and save your changes, refresh the page to see the updates in your preview.
Preview content from Guides and Surveys
You can initiate content previews directly from the Guides and Surveys editor. When editing guides or survey content, you'll see a Preview button in the top right of the editor.
To preview content from Guides and Surveys:
- In the content editor, click the Preview button in the top right.
- In the modal that appears, enter the URL of the website where you want to preview the content.
- Click Open page .
- A new tab opens with the preview bar at the bottom of the page. For content with automatic triggers, the content appears immediately. For content with manual triggers (such as product tours set to start on a button click), click on the first step in the preview bar to start the preview.
Note: If you don't see the guide or survey content after opening the preview, check your Page & Audience Targeting settings in the content's configuration to ensure the URL matches your targeting rules.
Previewing in different languages
If your content has been translated using Localization, you can preview it in any available language directly from the Guides and Surveys editor.
To preview content in a different language:
- In the content editor, ensure Localization is enabled in your content's settings.
- Click the Preview button in the top right.
- In the modal that appears, enter the URL of the website where you want to preview the content.
- Select a language from the Preview language dropdown.
- Click Open page .
The content will display in the selected language in the preview tab.

How do I install the extension on Microsoft Edge?
The Guides and Surveys extension works on Microsoft Edge because Edge supports Chrome extensions. To install on Edge:
- In Microsoft Edge, go to the Chrome Web Store .
- If prompted, select Allow extensions from other stores in the banner at the top of the page, then select Allow to confirm.
- Click Add to Chrome to install the extension.
Why does my content show as "not available on this page"?
Content availability is determined by page targeting rules. If your content has specific page targeting configured, it will only show as available on pages that match those rules. You can still preview the content by clicking Start preview anyway , or adjust the page targeting settings in the content editor.
Why are my user segments and tags not being applied during preview?
The preview feature intentionally bypasses user segment and tag conditions so you can test your content regardless of your own user profile. Only page targeting rules are applied during preview.
How do I see my content changes in the preview?
After saving changes to your content in Guides and Surveys, refresh the page where you are previewing. The extension will load the updated content automatically.
