Metric that tracks how many user has left on a loading page

New

Hi!

I would like to know how many of my users are leaving my website because the loading time was too long. Do you have any idea of how I can track this? ie the number of session that ends on a loading page?

It’s not exactly a loading page, is have the loading spin on any page / waiting for a request to be finished.

Thank you!

  • Hi @victoria ! Thanks for your question. There are a few ways you can accomplish what you’re after:

    1. First, we offer Page Speed Metrics that can be utilized in a metric to understand pages where the page loaded slowly. With the addition of a dependent criteria filter for “Exit Page > is true”, you can see which pages are loading slowly and where the user is exiting. Here’s an example:

    2. Another option you could utilize is a Watched Element, which is available on our Advanced and Enterprise plans. With this feature, you could create a Watched Element for the loading icon that appears on your site. With this Watched Element, you can then create a metric to look for users who saw this Watched Element for X amount of time and exited your site from that same page. With this option, it’s possible a user could fit the below filters but not have left your site due to the loading icon (e.g. they waited to the page to load, scrolled around that page, then exited). Example below:

    • Keep in mind that Watched Elements do not apply to sessions retroactively and will only be seen in new sessions that are created after the Watched Element is created and saved. Only Admins and Architects have permission to create Watched Elements.

    1. The final option I want to mention is that you could build a funnel for the specific user flow(s) you’re interested in and then utilize that funnel in a conversion analysis to see what’s stopping your end-users from making it to the end of the funnel, like slow page loads. Conversions are also only available on our Advanced and Enterprise plans.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any further questions we can assist you with. :)
