Using custom dimensions & variables to create segments

We send ‘category’ information into the data layer for product and article pages. Is there a way to create a segment using custom dimensions or info in page metadata as a filter?
The custom category information isn't added to the URL string e.g. home/mens-socks/product or exposed as a visible page element so Navigation and Engagement filters cannot pick out the information.
Is this something that can be achieved with Custom Events?

Yes, you can absolutely search for specific properties that your team is passing to Fullstory. To determine which properties you're passing to Fullstory, whether custom event, custom page, or user properties, you can navigate to your Property Settings: https://app.eu1.fullstory.com/ui/org/settings/properties
When creating a search in Fullstory, properties are usually added a dependent criteria filters. For example, if you search for a custom event, you can add a refinement to search by a specific property associated with that event:
