An assist represents a single meaningful interaction between a visitor and your Guides and Surveys content. Assists are counted per content type with specific rules that avoid duplicate counting for repeated interactions within a short time window.
What counts as an assist
Guides and Surveys counts one assist when any of the following occur:
- Tour - A unique user views a tour for the first time within a one-hour window, regardless of how many steps of that tour the user completed.
- Smart Tip - A user engages with a Smart Tip on the page. Any number of Smart Tip interactions within a specific Smart Tip group within a one-hour window count as a single assist.
- Checklist - A user marks a checklist item as done.
- Banner - A unique user sees a banner for the first time within a 30-day window.
When additional assists are not counted
To avoid counting duplicate interactions, Guides and Surveys does not count additional assists when:
- A user engages with the same tour multiple times within one hour.
- A user engages with any Smart Tip within the same Smart Tip group within one hour.
- A user completes the same checklist item multiple times.
- A user views the same banner multiple times within 30 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does visiting a page with Guides and Surveys content count as an assist?
No. An assist is only counted when a visitor has a meaningful interaction with the Guides and Surveys content itself, not simply from visiting a page where that content exists.
What happens if I restart a tour or checklist?
Restarting a tour or checklist displays the content again to all users who already interacted with it. This counts as a new interaction, so a new assist will be counted for each user. For example, if a user completed a checklist item and you restart the checklist, completing that item again counts as a new assist.
What happens if I delete a user's progress?
Deleting a user's progress by clicking Delete Progress from a user's profile page resets that user's interaction history. When this user meets the content conditions again, a new assist will be counted as if they were a completely new user.
If a tour is started from a checklist item, how many assists are counted?
Two assists are counted: one for the checklist interaction and one for the tour being started. Each content type counts separately even when they're linked together.
