What are the best practices for the % of sessions captured?

Answered

Currently our team captures all user traffic to the site, which eats up our storage quite considerably. We're exploring options to track only a random percentage of user sessions, rather than capturing 100% of traffic by default. Are there any best practices for percentage or other settings that can give us enough data for long term insights without losing much visibility on short-term bugs or errors?

  • Hi Aashna Tiku !

Our credo is to give web teams the most complete picture of their customer experience possible. Fullstory's current design and future improvements rely on capturing the entire customer experience. As such, we don't have a recommended percentage of sessions to capture.

If you're looking at ways to limit the number of sessions you capture, Fullstory provides a few options that help you restrict data capture with a wide brush:

Additionally, I can see your team is utilizing our Umbrella Management feature.  It looks like some of your accounts are using a smaller amount of sessions so an Umbrella Manager can take some of the sessions allocated to those accounts and move them to the accounts that are using a larger number of sessions. More on this here.

If you have any follow-up questions about this, please do let us know!
