Funnel Inactive time
Answered
I am trying to figure out how much time it takes users to complete a funnel. I see median time to convert, but I'm looking to get a breakdown of active vs inactive time. When I look at the Session Playlist for my funnel, I can see that the total session time is available. Additionally, when watching the session replay, the inactive time is indicated by turning the clock yellow. This makes me think that the data I am looking for is available, but I am unable to figure out how to get it.
For each session associated with my funnel, can I get:
- Total session run time
- Total session inactive time.
Thanks to anyone who can help,
Tony

Hi Tony Raitano !
You're spot on that the solid yellow line in session playback indicates periods of inactivity.
Whilst this is something we track in Fullstory, and something you can utilise in various page metrics - alas, I'm afraid it's not currently possible to specify this inactive versus active time in funnel steps. Right now, the median time to convert is always looking at total time (active + inactive).
I will go ahead and get this submitted as product feedback on my side for you, as I can certainly understand why being able to break this conversion time down in this way would be handy.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or suggestions we can assist you with.
Thanks for looking into this, Hania.
If this feature does make it's way onto the team's roadmap, please let me know.
Hi Tony Raitano !
Whilst we don't have a way to personally notify you when new features are released - I would recommend bookmarking our release notes where you can keep up with the latest product updates in Fullstory. Or alternatively, our Full Scoop newsletter (which I see you're already subscribed to), will also keep you more proactively in the loop on new releases.
I hope that may be helpful. As always, if you have any further queries or feedback don't hesitate to let us know.
Hello, has this been implemented? We are looking at the same issue and are wondering if this is possible now. We would like to able to exclude the inactive time from the medium time to convert.
Hi Diego Vieira !
Thanks for your message. I'm afraid this is not yet a feature request that has made it into production. Whilst I do certainly understand the value of being able to break down funnel conversion in this way, this isn't something that we have been able to prioritise as of yet, above other developments. But I will add a +1 to this feature request on your behalf, since the more noise we hear about this, the more likely we can prioritise in future.
Whilst this isn't exactly what you're looking for, one alternative suggestion I could make is replicating your funnel steps into a segment. And then looking to the Segment Health Card we surface there - as this does include an Average Active Time summary there. Which is looking at all the sessions matching your search criteria, and then surfacing the total duration of active engagement in those sessions, so specifically excluding inactive time. An example below from one of our demo instances:
Another option to explore, if your plan includes access to our Segment Export functions, is to explore a raw data export. As an Events > Page type export there, includes data on Active Page Duration (which is measuring the active time a user spent on each page during their session). You could create a segment filtered to sessions that complete your funnel sequence, and then look to that field in the export. This is raw data, so may require some analysis via Excel, or a BI tool, but may prove helpful if you're wanting to deep dive into active time.
We're on hand should you have any follow-up queries.
