This article will cover the following:

Quick start

To get started, let's initiate a comparative analysis using the Everyone and Mobile segments, which are preconfigured in every account.

  1. From left Fullstory side menu, click Ask StoryAI.
  2. Under Select an analysis, choose Comparative Analysis.
  3. Under Select data sources, click View and update data
    1. At the Select Data Sources modal, click Segments.
    2. Search for "Mobile" and then select Mobile.
    3. Search for "Everyone" and then select Everyone.
    4. Click Save Data Sources.
  4. Open the toggle for Additional context (optional) and enter the following:

Help me understand the key behavioral differences between users in the Everyone group versus those only in the Mobile group.
  5. Click Run analysis.

StoryAI will return an initial analysis on the right side of the page, which includes an overview and key insights.

Click into each key insight for additional details.

After the initial analysis is returned, you can ask additional questions in the chat window:

  1. In the chat window at that bottom, type the following:

What are the top friction points for each group?
  2. Click the button or press Enter.

Working with Ask StoryAI Home

What Ask StoryAI analyzes in Ask StoryAI Home: Ask StoryAI analyzes the segments, metrics, and funnels you select—you control exactly what data to explore (up to 50 metrics & funnels total; max of 3 segments).

After selecting Ask StoryAI from the left side menu, you can configure your analysis by choosing an analysis type, selecting data sources, and optionally adding a custom prompt to guide the analysis. For example: "Help me understand key behavioral differences between mobile, desktop, and tablet users" or "Focus on the booking funnel and identify where users are dropping off."

Click Run analysis to receive proactive insights and an overview, then ask follow-up questions to explore further.

Overview

The Overview section begins with a high-level summary of what Ask StoryAI found, and depending on the type of analysis that was used, may also include additional details. Use this to quickly understand the key patterns and issues in your data before diving into specific insights.

Insights

The Insights section offers detailed, actionable recommendations. Click into any insight to see a detailed explanation of why it matters, the supporting data that led to this insight, and recommended actions you can take.

Opportunities

If available, AskStory will reference any Opportunities (like funnel drops or spiking issues) that it can highlight for key insights.

Asking follow-up questions

Every analysis includes a chat window where you can ask follow-up questions about your selected data sources. Use this to explore specific aspects Ask StoryAI might not have covered in the initial analysis, or to get clarity on patterns you've noticed.

Example questions:

  • What are the key behavioral differences between mobile, desktop, and tablet users?
  • How has [X] metric trended over the selected time period?
  • (When comparing multiple segments) Which segment is performing the best?
  • (When providing funnels as a data source) What is the conversation rate for [X] funnel?
  • (When providing funnels as a data source) Where are users dropping off in [X] funnel?

Tip: Ask StoryAI works best with specific, data-focused questions about your selected data sources. Avoid asking questions about data you didn't select, requesting external data not visible in Fullstory, or questions requiring different time ranges.

When working with funnels, Ask StoryAI can answer questions about conversion rates and how properties or segments impact conversion rates (both overall and between steps). However, Ask StoryAI cannot answer questions about specific events that occur between funnel steps—e.g. watched elements that appear during the funnel—or how long it takes users to complete funnel steps.

For more guidance on crafting effective questions, see Ask StoryAI Best Practices.
