Ask StoryAI Best Practices

Ask StoryAI works best when you ask specific, context-relevant questions. The types of questions you can ask depend on where you're using Ask StoryAI:

  • In Session Replay: Why did the user rage click on this element?
  • In Session Replay: Did the user appear confused or frustrated?
  • In Segments: What are the top frustration signals in this segment?
  • In Segments: How does activity compare between weekdays and weekends?
  • In Dashboards: How does performance compare across device types?
  • In Dashboards: Where are users dropping off in the conversion flow (when a funnel is provided)?
  • In Ask StoryAI Home: How does the control segment compare to the experiment (when multiple segments are provided)?
  • In Ask StoryAI Home: How has this metric trended over the selected time period (when a metric is provided)?

Questions to avoid

Ask StoryAI has specific data boundaries depending on where you're using it. Avoid questions that:

  • Ask for data outside the current context (e.g. comparing segments when viewing a single segment).
  • Require external data not available in Fullstory (e.g. demographic data not captured, marketing ROI from external systems).
  • Ask about data that requires filters different from what's currently applied.
  • Ask questions about funnels that go beyond conversion rates and how properties or segments impact conversion (e.g. asking about specific events between steps, watched elements during the funnel, or how long it takes users to complete steps).

Analysis types

When using Ask StoryAI Home or Dashboards, you can choose from five analysis types:

  • General Analysis - Applies a broad lens to identify overall patterns, trends, and opportunities in your data.
  • Comparative Analysis - Examines similarities and differences in behavioral data between different groups (e.g., mobile vs. desktop users, different user segments).
  • Launch Analysis - Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of a new feature launch or product release.
  • Friction Analysis - Identifies frustration signals and pain points that may be impacting user experience and conversion.
  • Health Analysis - Examines overall product performance and identifies anomalies or areas that need attention.
