Working with Ask StoryAI in Session Replay
When viewing a session replay, look for the StoryAI section in the user card (top right corner) and click Analyze session. Ask StoryAI will take a few seconds to analyze the session and provide two distinct tabs: Overview & Key Moments and Behavioral Insights. Ask follow-up questions to dive deeper.
Overview & Key Moments
The Overview & Key Moments tab provides a table of contents for the session. The overview summarizes what happened in the session, while Key Moments highlights the most important events with clickable timestamps that jump directly to each moment in the replay. This allows you to quickly navigate to the most important parts of a session without watching the entire replay.
Each Key Moment includes the ability to Analyze Segment (create a new segment around the behavior), Note and Share, and Copy.
Behavioral Insights
The Behavioral Insights tab is Ask StoryAI's interpretation of the user's experience, including a user sentiment rating (Positive, Mixed, or Negative) based on the combination of signals in the session, plus counts and lists of individual success signals and frustration signals.
For each signal, Ask StoryAI explains what happened, why it matters, and shows the total number of users affected. Click through any signal to see additional details including Supporting Moment with a timestamp that links directly to the moment in the session replay. Each signal also includes an Analyze segment link to zoom out and see how widespread the issue is.
Zooming out: From session to segment
When you identify an interesting issue or pattern in a session, you can click Analyze segment to zoom out and see how many other users are experiencing the same issue. This workflow helps you transition from "What happened in this session?" to "How widespread is this issue?" seamlessly.
Ask StoryAI will create a new segment filtered for users who experienced the same behavior (e.g., rage clicked on a specific element) and pre-populate the segment title and description. From the segment page, click Analyze segment to have Ask StoryAI in Segments do the initial analysis on your behalf.
Asking follow-up questions
Every session analysis includes a chat window where you can ask follow-up questions about the session. Ask StoryAI will analyze the session event list and provide an answer, often including clickable links to jump to specific moments in the replay.
Example questions:
- What was the user trying to accomplish?
- Why did the user rage click on [element]?
- Did the user appear confused or frustrated?
- What errors did the user encounter?
Tip: Ask StoryAI works best with specific questions about what happened in this single session. Avoid asking it to compare across sessions, request aggregate metrics, or ask for data not in the event list. To understand how widespread an issue is, use the Analyze segment button to create a segment of users experiencing the same behavior.
