  2. Look for the StoryAI section under Dashboard Filters.
  3. Click Set up my analysis.
  4. For your analysis type, choose General Analysis.
  5. Under Data Sources, choose Select all.
  6. Optionally, add custom context to guide the analysis.
  7. Click Analyze data and review the insights.

Working with Ask StoryAI in Dashboards

What Ask StoryAI analyzes in Dashboards: Ask StoryAI analyzes the metrics and funnels from your dashboard that you select during setup—giving you control over exactly which data to focus on (up to 50 data sources).

From any dashboard, look for the StoryAI section under Dashboard Filters and click Set up my analysis.

You can configure your analysis by choosing an analysis type, selecting which metrics and funnels to analyze, and optionally adding custom context to guide the analysis. For example: "Help me compare the performance of different checkout promotion paths in terms of funnel conversion" or "Funnel A is the control group, Funnel B is the group that received the marketing promotion."

Click Analyze data to receive proactive insights and an overview, then ask follow-up questions to explore further.

Overview

The Overview section begins with a high-level summary of what Ask StoryAI found from the selected data sources on your dashboard, and depending on the type of analysis that was used, may also include additional details. Use this to quickly understand the key patterns and issues in your data before diving into specific insights.

Insights

The Insights section offers detailed, actionable recommendations. Click into any insight to see a detailed explanation of why it matters, the supporting data that led to this insight, and recommended actions you can take.

Opportunities

If available, AskStory will reference any Opportunities (like funnel drops or spiking issues) that it can highlight for key insights.

Asking follow-up questions

Every dashboard analysis includes a chat window where you can ask follow-up questions about your selected data sources. Use this to explore specific aspects Ask StoryAI might not have covered in the initial analysis, or to get clarity on patterns you've noticed.

Example questions:

  • What is the overall trend of user engagement?
  • How does performance compare across different device types?
  • (When providing funnels as a data source) What's the overall conversion rate for [X] funnel?
  • (When providing funnels as a data source) Where are users dropping off in the conversion flow in [X] funnel?
  • (When providing metrics as a data source) What's one action I should take to improve [X] metric?

Tip: Ask StoryAI works best with specific, data-focused questions about your selected data sources. Avoid requesting data not in your selected metrics and funnels, comparing across dashboards, or asking for external data.

When working with funnels, Ask StoryAI can answer questions about conversion rates and how properties or segments impact conversion rates (both overall and between steps). However, Ask StoryAI cannot answer questions about specific events that occur between funnel steps—e.g. watched elements that appear during the funnel—or how long it takes users to complete funnel steps.
