Who can use this feature?
- Part of Guides and Surveys, an add-on for Business, Advanced, and Enterprise plans.
- Requires an Admin, Architect, or Standard role to configure.
Guides and Surveys is in active development. Product functionality and documentation may change without notice.
When multiple Guides and Surveys items — such as tours, checklists, or surveys — are targeted at the same page or user, the Priority setting controls the order in which they appear or autoplay.
This article covers the following:
- Default priority order
- Setting a custom priority
- Viewing and sorting priority on dashboards
- Key rules
Default priority order
If you have not set a custom priority, Guides and Surveys automatically displays content in the following order (highest to lowest):
This means that if a tour and a survey are both targeted at the same page, the tour will appear first.
Setting a custom priority
To change the priority of a specific item, open the item in the editor and go to the Settings tab. Locate the Priority field and enter a numerical value.
Items with a higher numerical value take precedence. For example, a tour set to priority 2 will play before a tour set to priority 1.
Next to the Priority field, you can also toggle on Ignore Content Throttling to let that specific tour or survey bypass throttling limits—useful for high-priority messaging or for testing. See Ignoring throttling for high-priority content or testing for details.
Viewing and sorting priority on dashboards
The priority value you set in Settings also appears on the Tours, Checklists, and Surveys dashboards next to each item.
Use the Sort control to order the list by Highest priority or Lowest priority. You can also sort by Latest updates or Oldest updates.
Key rules
- Manual triggers always take precedence. Content triggered manually (such as by a button click or custom trigger) will always display over autoplay content, regardless of priority settings.
- Active tours are not interrupted. If a user is already in the middle of a tour, a higher-priority autoplay tour will not interrupt it.
- Prevent content overlap. Use priority settings to ensure users are not shown multiple tours, checklists, or surveys simultaneously on the same page.
- Same-priority tie-breaking. When two items of the same content type share the same priority value, Guides and Surveys shows one of them (selected arbitrarily) rather than showing none.
