Activation - Overview

Anywhere: Activation enables journey activation and in-the-moment behavioral context for your agents, tools, and systems. Its primary function is to detect, understand, and instantly act on behavioral signals across your digital properties.

Activation relies on Fullstory's Fullcapture™ technology, which automatically records all user interactions without requiring manual tagging. This behavioral data is then processed through AI-powered streaming analytics to create triggers. Using pre-built connectors, these triggers and behavioral signals can be routed to key destinations, including AI agents, journey orchestrators, and customer support tools.

Behavioral insights outside of Fullstory

As you explore Activation, you'll notice a set of app features, API tools, and turnkey solutions that you can pursue. Unlike other Fullstory features that consist primarily of in-app user interfaces, like our suite of product analytics features, Activation has very little surface area in the actual Fullstory product. This is because the purpose of Activation is to deliver Fullstory-powered behavioral insights outside of Fullstory, directly into the apps and tools you and your customers are already using.

Behavioral insights for customer support

While Fullstory has always provided useful context to support team members by providing links to recent sessions, this solution always involved having to take the time to watch sessions. With Activation's AI-powered session summaries, there's no need to watch the session—just read the summary. The full session is always available to watch if you need it.

Further, the prompts that drive the session summaries can be customized to match the exact needs of the organization and its customers.

As team members spend less time gathering context, expect to see an increase in customer satisfaction while seeing decreases in first reply time and average handle time.

Activation customer support solutions

In-session Personalization for Marketing & Product

This function allows you to use behavioral patterns to trigger personalized content and offers during a user's session. It is designed to drive revenue by delivering timely, relevant experiences. You can instantly segment users based on their current behavior and personalize the experience even for unauthenticated users, such as those in a guest checkout flow. This can be used to increase conversions, reduce cart abandonment, and improve upsell opportunities.

Behavioral Streams for Data & Analytics

This function provides a stream of event data to your existing analytics tools or Customer Data Platforms (CDPs). It is designed to accelerate insights and cut engineering costs. By using Fullcapture™ to automatically collect data, it removes the development time and ongoing maintenance associated with manual event tracking. This process ensures data is complete, as no historical information is lost due to tagging errors, and makes behavioral data available for immediate analysis.

Activation solutions for behavioral streams

Activation Tools

While the turnkey solutions referenced above can be set up with very little configuration, many businesses will find value in designing their own Activation solution for their specific business needs. Fullstory offers a suite of in-app tools and APIs to enrich behavioral data at the exact right moment and context.

In-app tools

The functionality below is defined directly within the Fullstory app.

  What is it? Use case
Streams Single event or multi-event patterns that trigger streams of behavioral data to a specified webhook endpoint. Trigger personalized content and in-the-moment offers during a user's session; stream event data to CDPs.

Activation APIs

The Activation developer guide contains several APIs and technical resources for enriching your behavioral data.

  What is it? Use case
Get Session Events Returns raw event data exactly as it appears in Fullstory. In conjunction with Streams triggers, gather a complete set of session data to power in-the-moment personalization.
Generate Context Returns structured textual context of a session that can be used with generative AI or LLMs. Provide Fullstory session context to a generative AI that you control in a format that's appropriate for an LLM.
Create Profile* Used in conjunction with Generate Summary, creates an LLM prompt profile and specifics the exact output for the generated summary. Create AI prompt profiles for various use cases, such as identifying fraud, documenting troubleshooting steps, etc.
Generate Summary Used in conjunction with Create Profile, creates an AI-generated session summary according to the prompt profile you specified. Generate in-the-moment session summaries to quickly bring team members up to speed on customer behavior. Ideal for customer support.

Related APIs

Not all look-up patterns are going to be triggered by real-time event Streams. Especially in a support context or when working with a CRM, you'll likely want to look up session and user data in Fullstory before generating a summary.

  What is it? Use case
Zapier - Activation Session Summaries Zap for generating session summaries and connecting to other tools. Send an AI-generated session summary to any tool that you have connected to Zapier.

External tools

General-purpose tools can help streamline the process of connecting behavioral data from Fullstory with other systems.

  What is it? Use case
List Sessions Returns a list of sessions for a specified user id or email address. In a customer support context, useful for retrieving a list of sessions. Use in conjunction with Generate Summary.
Users API CRUD functionality for user objects in Fullstory. Useful for pulling user data out of Fullstory to provide additional customer data in a support context.

Activation Quota

Anywhere: Activation introduces a new usage-based metric called "Activations". Learn more at Activation Quota.
