Fullstory Anywhere: Activation helps you activate real-time, personalized experiences based on user behavior. This is done through a new usage-based metric called "Activations". This article explains what Activations are, how they are consumed, and how you can purchase more.

What is an Activation?

An Activation is the unit of consumption for Anywhere: Activation. Different features, like API calls and real-time event streams, consume Activations at different rates. This flexible model allows you to use a single, unified quota across a variety of use cases.

All customers on Advanced or Enterprise plans receive a quota of 1,000 Activations per month for proof-of-concept evaluation.

How are Activations Consumed?

Three types of actions consume Activations: API Calls, Pattern Triggers, and Event Triggers. The table below details the consumption rate for each type of action.

Metric Consumption Rate Definition Example
API Calls 1 Activation per call Each call to the Session Summary API, Context API, or Session Events API consumes one Activation. A session summary is sent to a customer support representative.
Pattern Trigger 1 Activation from an event pattern trigger Used for detecting complex, multi-step user behaviors. 

When Fullstory sends a real-time notification when a multi-step pattern is triggered, that consumes one Activation.
A shopper clicks “checkout” after adding more than $50 and a specific product to their basket, causing Fullstory to trigger a notification.
Event Trigger 1 Activation per 100 streams from a single event trigger Used for detecting single, specific user actions. 

When Fullstory sends a real-time notification from a single event trigger, that consumes 0.01 Activations.
An event is streamed to Adobe in real-time whenever any shopper clicks ‘Remove from cart’.

Purchasing Additional Activations

If you need more than the included 1,000 monthly Activations, you can purchase additional quota to lock in preferred rates. Please contact a member of your Fullstory account team to discuss the right plan for you.

How to Estimate Usage

The number of Activations you need will depend on your specific use cases. The table below provides estimated Activations needed for various use cases per 1,000 user sessions. You can use this to help estimate your own needs.

FAQ

Do Activations expire?

Your plan's Activation quota is allocated for use within your specific subscription period. Any unused Activations expire at the end of each period and do not roll over.

For example, if your plan includes 100,000 Activations per month, your quota will reset to 100,000 Activations at the start of the next month.

How do Activations work with Umbrella accounts?

If you have an Umbrella account, Umbrella Managers can allocate activations across sub-accounts. See Allocate activations to sub-accounts for details.
