Guides and Surveys is in active development. Product functionality and documentation may change without notice.

Guides and Surveys provides built-in reporting to help you measure the effectiveness of your in-app experiences. Reports are available for Tours, Smart Tips, Checklists, Banners, and Surveys. Use these reports to track engagement, identify drop-off points, and iterate on your content to improve user outcomes. Fullstory users will also find Guides and Surveys event data available in Fullstory Analytics for detailed analysis.

Reports overview dashboard

To access reports, navigate to the Reports section from the Guides and Surveys sidebar. The main Reports Overview page displays high-level metrics for quick monitoring:

  • Monthly Assists (Total): The total number of unique users assisted across all content this month.
  • Top Performing Content: A list of your most engaged content (tours, smart tips, checklists, banners, and surveys) sorted by the highest number of assists.

From the overview, you can select any individual piece of content to view its detailed report.

Content-type reports

Each content type in Guides and Surveys has its own reporting view with metrics specific to that type. Select a content type below to learn about its reporting capabilities:

  • Tour reports: Track assists, tour starts, tour completions, and step-level drop-off analysis.
  • Smart Tip reports: Track assists and views to measure the visibility and engagement of your contextual tips.
  • Checklist reports: Track assists, views, unique users, completion rate, and item-level analytics.
  • Survey reports: Track survey responses and completion data.
  • Banner reports: Track banner displays and click-through rates.

Filtering reports

You can filter report data to analyze specific user segments or time periods. On any report page:

  1. Click Show Filter on the report page.
  2. Enter filter conditions using the format [property] [operator] [value], e.g. carMake contains Audi.
    • Text properties support contains and equals operators.
    • Numeric properties support <, <=, ==, >=, and > operators.
    • Text matching is case insensitive.
    • You can specify multiple conditions. Conditions are combined using AND logic.
  3. Use the date pickers to customize the time period you want to analyze.

Exporting data

You can export report data for further analysis outside of Guides and Surveys. Click the Download CSV button on any report page to export data in CSV format.

Exportable data types include:

  • Tour Steps: User interactions and completion rates for each step of a tour.
  • Form Answers: Responses from embedded forms within tours.
  • Survey Responses: Feedback data from surveys.

Analyzing content performance in Fullstory

In addition to the built-in reports, Guides and Surveys sends custom events to Fullstory for every user interaction with your content. These custom events allow you to analyze content performance using Fullstory's analytics capabilities, including searching for users by their interactions, building segments, and creating funnels.
