- Requires an Admin, Architect, or Standard role to configure.
Guides and Surveys is in active development. Product functionality and documentation may change without notice.
Banners in Guides and Surveys let you deliver in-app announcements to your users. Banners can appear at the top or bottom of your page, or be embedded within your application's content. Use banners to communicate important updates, promotions, or calls to action.
This article covers the following:
Creating a banner
- After navigating to Guides and Surveys, select Banners from the sidebar.
- You can choose one of the predefined templates (for example, Sales campaign or Maintenance announcement) or create a completely new banner.
- Click Add Banner or select one of the templates.
Placement and layout
- Choose whether you want the banner to show on top or bottom of your page or embedded. For the embedded option you can specify whether the element to which the banner applies is before, after or inside the element and its distance to the banner.
- Specify whether the announcement should appear on the left or right side.
Buttons and actions
- You can include buttons like Close, Open Tour, Open URL, or Open Survey.
- In the Interaction section, you can choose to display a banner with buttons or to make the whole banner clickable. If you select the Whole banner option, any click on the banner will lead to the action you want.
You can set these actions:
- Open URL - the click on the banner leads to the given page.
- Open tour - the click begins the tour you chose (you can specify URL where the tour should start).
- Open survey - the click triggers a survey you have created.
Appearance
- You have the option to enable Display as cross on the close button to change it to a cross (X). This lets you customize the appearance of the close button.
-
Borders - You can customize the border of your banner:
- Border style – choose from None, Solid, Dashed, and other options.
- Border width – set the thickness of the border.
- Border radius – round the corners of your banner.
- Border color – select a color that matches your design.
Banner settings
In the Settings tab, you can configure the following:
- You can limit where your banner will be showing (more info in Page Targeting).
- Show to each user just once - decide whether the banner will be displayed every time, or only once for a given user.
- If you have your own Theme, you can assign it to your banner.
- To display in different languages, you can enable Localization and translate the banner into the language you want (more info in Localization).
Reporting
While viewing a banner, click the Analyze tab in the top center of the page. Click Build to go back to building your banner.
Banner reports help you measure reach and engagement. On the Analyze view you can see:
- Assists (last 30 days): Unique users who were assisted by the banner (each user counted once per hour).
- Displays: How many times the banner was shown to users.
- Clicks: How many times users clicked the banner or its action buttons.
- Clickthrough rate: The number of clicks that your banner receives divided by the number of views.
The report also includes a performance Overview trend showing displays and clicks over time.
Additional reporting options:
- To filter by user segment or time period, or to export data, see Guides and Surveys: Reporting.
- For deeper analysis in Fullstory, banner events and properties are described in Guides and Surveys: Custom Events and Properties — Banner.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make a banner appear only once per user?
In the Settings tab, enable the Show to each user just once option. This ensures the banner will only be displayed once for each user.
How do I clone or duplicate a banner?
At the Banners page, click the 3 dots (…) next to the banner you wish to duplicate, and select Clone banner.
