Guides and Surveys is in active development. Product functionality and documentation may change without notice.

The Users page in Guides and Surveys lets you view individual user profiles to understand how users are engaging with your content. User profiles track progress through tours, checklists, and surveys; show which segments and tags apply to each user; display survey responses; and indicate which variant a user is seeing in each A/B experiment.

Users appear in Guides and Surveys in two ways: when a user ID is explicitly set using the Guides and Surveys browser API (window.USETIFUL.user.setId()), and when Fullstory user properties are synced to Guides and Surveys. When a user ID is set, Guides and Surveys persists progress and tag data across sessions and devices.

This article covers the following:

Viewing user profiles

To access user profiles, click Users in the left-hand menu of Guides and Surveys. The Users page lists all users who have been exposed to your content. Click any user ID to open their profile.

Each profile displays the user's Sign Up Date, current Segment, and Last update timestamp in the left sidebar. Tabs across the top provide detail on each aspect of the user's engagement.

Progress

The Progress tab shows every piece of Guides and Surveys content the user has engaged with, along with their current state and when it was last updated.

The table includes the following columns:

  • Content: the name of the guide or survey, linked to its editor.
  • State: the user's current status for that content item, such as In Progress or Seen.
  • Last update: the timestamp of the most recent progress event.

To reset a user's progress, click Delete Progress in the top-right corner of the tab.

Custom Segments

The Custom Segments tab displays the Guides and Surveys user segments the user currently belongs to. Segments are defined by tag-based conditions and are used to target content to specific groups of users.

Note: Guides and Surveys user segments are separate from Fullstory segments, even though they share the same name.

User Tags & Properties

The User Tags & Properties tab shows all data Guides and Surveys has received for this user, organized into three sections. For a full explanation of how Fullstory user properties appear in Guides and Surveys, see Guides and Surveys - Fullstory User Properties.

Fullstory User Properties

The Fullstory User Properties section shows all user properties that Fullstory has received for this user via the browser API. These are the same properties available as tag values when configuring targeting conditions and user segments.

Managed tags

The G&S Tags - Managed section shows tags that have been manually set for this user within Guides and Surveys. Click Manage Tags to add or remove managed tags for this user.

Other and auto-generated tags

The G&S Tags - Other section shows tags set programmatically using the Guides and Surveys browser API (setTag or setTags). The autoGeneratedTags subsection includes automatically captured context such as the current URL, domain, country, device type, screen size, browser name, and browser language.

Feedback

The Feedback tab shows survey responses submitted by this user, grouped under Survey responses. If the user has not yet completed a survey, the tab displays "There are no survey responses."

Survey responses are collected when a user submits a Guides and Surveys survey.

A/B Experiments

The A/B Experiments tab shows which variant this user is currently assigned to for each active A/B experiment. Each experiment appears as a chip showing the experiment name and the variant label.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Fullstory User Properties and G&S tags?

Fullstory User Properties are the properties you send to Fullstory via the browser API. They appear in Guides and Surveys as tag values in the Fullstory User Properties section and can be used to target content or create user segments. "G&S Tags - Managed" and "G&S Tags - Other" are tags set directly within Guides and Surveys, either through the Guides and Surveys browser API (setTag / setTags) or by clicking Manage Tags in the user profile. For more detail, see Guides and Surveys - Fullstory User Properties.

Why are there no survey responses in the Feedback tab?

The Feedback tab only shows responses from surveys the user has submitted. If the user has not yet completed a survey—or if the survey has not been triggered for this user— the tab displays "There are no survey responses."

How do I import users into Guides and Surveys?

You can import users in bulk from the Users page. For step-by-step instructions, see Guides and Surveys - Importing Users.
